The day of racing at the Plymouth City Indoor Rowing Champs 2011 was intense from start to finish. At the Primary Schools competition the volume was turned all the way up to 11, with over 200 competitors screaming support and encouragement to thier team members racing on the indoor rowing machines. After 30 races the eventual team winners were Widey Court usurping Elburton after 2 years at the top.
The Seniors schools competition saw another large entry from schools all across Plymouth. Congratulations must go to Longcause Special School who brought a contingent of students ready to make their mark, one of which did just that in the boy’s year eight race. Favourites to win were any of the four J’s who have raced each other over the last 3 years; Jac McConaghy, Jack Clench, Jack James (DHSB), Josh Wills (Coombe Dean). Not today! Straight out front from the start, James Nicholson from Longcause Special School set the pace for others to chase having placed 11th at this years BIRC. The other 4 J’s then had to contend with Owen Jones (St Boniface) who split the group. James took a comfortable first place with Owen second and Jac McConaghy 3rd. Well done to all those who from Longcause Special School who came along and raced.
