Disability Day on the Hoe

We will be at the Disabled Activity Day on Plymouth Hoe on 1st June from 10am to 4pm with the adapted indoor rowing machines for you to try out. This is the third year the event has run but the first time we will be there. The D.A.D is organised by Scoot-a-long, The Rotary Club of Roborough. Why not come along and say hello and try indoor rowing outdoors!

End of an Era

We regret to announce that the South West Rowability Project will cease to exist in its current form on the 31st March 2013 due to the funding being withdrawn. We are currently looking at ways in which we can continue to support disability rowing across Devon.

Thanks to successful campaigning by Katy Wedgwood (Plymouth SEN school sport co-ordinator) the Youth Sport Trust have stepped in with temporary funding to allow the work we do to continue in schools in Plymouth and the surrounding areas up to the end of the school year at the end of July 2013.

We are investigating viable avenues that will allow the disability rowing for adults to continue, but this work has been suspended in the meantime.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the programme over the past 4 years. We hope that you will continue to enjoy the sport of rowing.

Kings on the Water

This Monday morning saw the first session on the water at Exeter Rowing Club run by South West Rowability. SEN students from The Kings School in Ottery St Mary had been training on indoor rowing machines since November last year. Some had already put their training to good use, competing at the Devon Winter Ability Games and all the students had been given the option of a session on the water at Exeter RC.

On the day the students were lucky enough to have bright sunshine greeting them when they arrived at Exeter RC and they all put in a lot of effort and performed really well, transferring their indoor rowing skills successfully onto the water. Hopefully they will continue to pursue rowing in the future either indoors or at their local club.

Plymouth SEN Indoor Competition

Straight after half-term we will be holding both Secondary and Primary indoor rowing competitions for SEN students in Plymouth. The events will run from 10am-12noon at Woodlands Special School with the Secondary event on Tues 26th Feb and the Primary event on Wed 27th Feb. Please book on using the Plymouth SSP website HERE

Feb Half Term Sessions in Plymouth

Taster sessions rowing on the water at the Mount Batten Centre in Plymouth are on offer this February Half Term on Monday and Tuesday for young people aged between 11 and 18 years old. Have a look at the flyer below for more information and to book a place.

Matt's Para-Decathlon

At the recent Cornish Indoor Rowing Championships held in Newquay on 26th January Matt Brewster came along to compete as part of his Para-Decathlon 2013 for Childrens Hospice South West.

Devon Winter Ability Games Results

Over 400 young people attended the Devon Winter Ability Games at the LIFE Centre in Plymouth last Friday making it the biggest ever disability games in the county! There was plaenty for the participants to get involved with from taster sports such as table cricket and table tennis to watching displays of dance and mountain bike trials riding. The indoor rowing competition had over 100 competitors making it the biggest ever indoor adaptive rowing competition in Devon! With so many competitors eager to race, the day was fast and furious with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals going to the fastest three in each year group along with Spirit of the Games medals being awarded to those who displayed self-belief, passion and determination.
