On the 21st March, schools from across Plymouth and West
Devon came together at Woodlands School for another well attended indoor rowing
competition for pupils with Special Educational Needs. This was the third such
competition that the Plymouth School Sport Partnership and British Rowing have
held this term.
On the day, 30 young people took part from Plymstock, Eggbuckland,
Tavistock, Woodlands and Riverside schools competing in three races. A 3 min
heat, a 2 min heat and a 1min sprint final. The results of the first two races
were used to seed the sprint finals which resulted in some very close, exciting
racing. Medals were awarded to the winners in each final with a special team
prize for the school with the highest average score.
The Medallists were:
A Final James Eggbuckland
282m
B Final Connor Eggbuckland
256m
C Final Alex Plymstock
259m
D Final Brandon Plymstock 238m
E Final Kofi Plymstock 209m
F Final Kieran Plymstock
203m
G Final Jorina Woodlands 166m
Everyone who took part, put every effort into their Rowing and were a
credit to their school. It was great to see such a large amount of support and
encouragement coming from everyone competing but special mention went to
Shannon (Woodlands) and Kieran (Plymstock) for sportsmanship as they were
cheering constantly for not only their own teammates but for other competitors
from other schools.
And well done to Plymstock who had the highest average score and
therefore won them the prestigious team prize. Well done to all that took part!
